T
he Alphabet Song is another example of the questionable pedagogy that stifles our youth. Drilled into generations of preschoolers, its wimpiness has surely accelerated our cultural disdain of musicality. Perhaps worse, its tendency to trail off towards the end of the alphabet may actually make learning the whole alphabet more difficult. Around letter "Q" the "song" simply falls apart.

This version emphasizes playfulness, as when it highlights the "HI" hiding within the alphabet. This version underscores the importance of duality by emphasizing both the male "A" and the female "B" equally. Yes, even the alphabet is patriarchical, the upright male principle comes first; but the alphabet also recognizes equal need for the feminine—after all the word itself is the concrescence of alpha and beta into one: "alphabet." Above all, this version is fun.
