for the exploration of the universe are listed here. Most of these devices are electronic sound
generators used as props during my performances.
My sound generators are high-quality, hand-built, analog synthesizers designed to produce the maximum amount of impact, both visually and acoustically. To empower the musician, these devices include a variety of real-time controls: knobs, potentiometers, photocells, tilt switches, magnetic sensors, pressure and proximity sensors are all employed, often simultaneously. To empower the visually concerned these devices often display attitude through the use of unconventional housings coupled with stark controls. These devices are built to last. They are built with point-to-point wiring, quality components, fully socketed IC's, removable circuit boards, and love. You'll love them too. Please contact me for ordering information. |
Devices:
The “2K3pinky” is a fat, three oscillator wand built into recycled water pipe. The two knobs
control pitch and volume. The “pinky” uses internal tilt switches hand-tuned to change the pitch on a
pentatonic (blues) scale as the wand is moved through space.
The “pinky” uses magnetic sensors to engage the second and third oscillators. The three
screw heads visible at the right edge are touch sensors that override the pitch control of oscillator two.
This machine has a definite macho attitude in both sound and appearance.
The “3K1longbox” is a single oscillator module desgigned to accept a wide variety of plug-in variable resistances as pitch control. I find flex sensors and photocells especially useful with the longbox. Just a random view of my audio workspace in process. Consider this an ultrasound, revealing, not the gender of course, but, perhaps, something of the aesthetic idealogy surrounding the nascent devices-yet-to-come. |
