Gold/God

The stained-glass, jeweled window is cut in the outline of the Christian cross. Precious gems guard its four corners. A rainbow of chacras drips from the breast. Sharp turquoise studs protrude menacingly from its body. The colors of blood and gold dominate. The arms end in nuclear radiation danger symbols. The letter "L" is crossed out of the word "Gold".

Christians claim they worship God, but blood and Gold seem to have occupied the greater part of Christian effort throughout history. Perhaps the Christians erred by selecting as their icon the cross, the symbol of death. The cross transforms so easily into the sword of righteous murder. Spill the heathen's blood, steal their gold in the name of our God, amen. Perhaps it is merely the Christian's success that makes it so easy to see their faults.

This card reminds us that, in our own personal struggles for self-enlightenment, we must be ever mindful that the goal is richness of spirit. Don't be tricked by outside appearances. The spirit is inside us, and it always knows the truth--if we'll just listen.
